Be careful about letting others use your phone unless you’re
sure they won’t abuse the privilege. If you have concerns

our business office and a representative will be glad to assist
you.
Emergency Calls on Party Lines
New York State law requires you to hang up a party line telephone
immediately when told the line is needed for any emergency call.
The law defines an “emergency call” as a call “to
police or fire department, or for medical aid or ambulance service,
necessitated by a situation in which human life or property is in
jeopardy and prompt summoning of aid essential.”
National Security and Emergency Preparedness
(NE/EP)
If you are an organization, federal government, state government,
local government, private industry, or foreign government that has
telecommunications services that support a National Security and
Emergency Preparedness (NE/EP) mission you may be eligible to participate
in the TSP program. The TSP program gives priority response to those
customers when they request telephone service installations and
restorations. To find out if you are eligible contact the following:

Advertising Telephone Numbers
Advertising, in any form, a residence telephone for business purposes
or the regular use of a residence telephone for conduct of a business
is not permitted. If your telephone service is used for business
it must be classified as a business. Establishing a business classification
provides the business customer with added benefits.
Privacy Considerations
Billing Information
We are required to disclose your billing information (name, number,
address) to long distance companies whose networks you use. If you
would like to prevent this information from being shared then contact
our office for more information.
Non-Published Numbers
A non-published telephone number does:
-Prevent Crown Point Telephone from releasing your number, this
includes printed directories and directory assistance.
A non-published telephone number does not:
-Prevent your number from being relayed to an 800 (toll free) number
or 900 number service provider when you call them.
-Prevent your name and address from being relayed to long distance
companies for billing purposes when you make a collect or third-party
charge.
Annoyance\Harassment Call Procedures
If you receive a malicious or annoying phone call, hang up. Don’t
keep talking. That is what the caller wants. If the calls persist,
please contact our business office. Our representatives are specially
trained to assist you. In special cases we will work closely with
you and police officials to catch offenders.
It is a crime under both Federal and New York law to make a telephone
call for annoying or harassing purposes or, in the case of the Federal
law, to knowingly permit a telephone under one’s control to
be used for such purposes. This includes calls in which the caller
remains silent, as well as those in which the offender is threatening
or obscene.
